Öetzi's mitochondrial DNA has been analyzed, and (although he shares some similarities with living Europeans) there are differences that suggest that 'his people' went extinct at some point, leaving no descendants among living populations.

It's interesting that the article mentions in passing that the concept that mitochondrial DNA change over time could account for his lack of living relatives, without mentioning the implications that would have on the Eve / mitochondrial clock theory.
